자기만의 속도로 살아가는 이들을 완전하게 해주는 토핑 같은 모자를 만듭니다. 태리타운은 볼캡을 통해 전형성(type) 속에서 다양성(diversity)을 찾는 역설을 이야기하고자 합니다. 전통적으로 모자는 착용자의 신분이나 지위를 알려주는 역할을 했습니다. 누군가의 정체성(Identity)을 직접적으로 보여주는 매개인 셈이죠. 태리타운은 이러한 본질적 역할에 집중하고자 합니다. 그렇다고 단순히 직업이나 신분 같은 가시적이고 전통적인 특성에 그치고자 하는 것은 아닙니다. 태리타운의 볼캡은 각자가 가진 고유의 개성을 효과적으로 전달할 수 있도록 다양한 소재와 형태의 모자를 만들고자 합니다. 그리고 그 과정에서 태리타운 특유의 위트를 잃지 않고자 합니다. 또한, 태리타운은 성장에 관한 브랜드입니다. 더 정확히는 성장을 위해서 집중과 질주도 필요하지만, 적절히 스스로를 멈춰 세울 때 비로소 한 걸음 더 나아갈 수 있다는 메시지를 전하고자 합니다. 나아가기 위해 멈춘다? 얼핏 보면 서로 어울리지 않아 보이지만, 본질적으로 떨어질 수 없는 요소들을 Mix & Match 하는 것에서 태리타운은 영감을 얻습니다. 그리고 여기에 위트 한 방울을 떨어뜨려 브랜드를 전개하고자 합니다. “한여름에 더워 죽겠는데 무슨 코듀로이야!“와 같은 통념을 잠시 내려놓고, “내 룩을 완성시켜줄 여름용 코듀로이 모자를 만들 수 없을까?“와 같이 생각하는 것이 태리타운의 방식입니다. 세상의 질서나 사회의 통념이 아닌, 주체적인 삶의 방식을 통해 자신만의 속도로 인생을 살아가는 분들과 함께 하고자 합니다. 당신에게 던지는 저희의 작은 위트가 당신의 삶을 보다 더 여유롭게 해줄 수 있기를 바랍니다.
We make hats like toppings that complete the people who live with their own pace. Tarrytown wants to talk about the paradox of finding diversity in typicality through ball caps. Traditionally, hats served to inform the wearer’s class or status. It’s a medium that directly shows someone’s identity. Tarrytown wants to focus on such essential role. This does not mean that we want our ball cap to just have the traditional characteristic of a job or status for instance. Tarrytown wants to make ball caps of various materials and shapes to effectively convey unique personalities of different people. And in the process, we don’t want to lose the wit. Also, Tarrytown is a brand about growth. More precisely, we need the focus and the sprint for the growth, but we want to convey the message that we can take a step forward only when we properly slow down ourselves. Slow down to move on? At first glance, it looks out of place, but we get inspired by mix-matching elements that are essentially inseparable. And we want to unfold the brand with a drop of wit on top if it. “It’s so hot in the middle of summer and I can’t believe it’s corduroy!” Put down such conventional wisdom for a while, and thoughts like, “Can’t I make a summer corduroy hat to complete my look?” become the motivation to energize Tarrytown. We would like to be with people who live their lives with their own pace through an independent way of life, not by the order of the world or the conventional wisdom of society.
